Lavender
Truck Refurbishment cc
was established in 2001 and at present is one of the
leading manufacturers and refurbishers of former military
and Unimog vehicles in South Africa.
L.T.R.
specialises in a variety of different types of vehicles:
•
Fire-Engines
• Game Viewers
• Drop Sides
• Multi Purpose
• Custom Build
The company was founded by Willie Lourens and was
initially run from a garage with limited machinery.
Here the first cab was built and sold to Johan Jacobs
Machinery and Trucks, who was in possession of a large
number of these vehicles.
The
unit was sold on the condition that he had to fit
the cab to the vehicle. A load body was also ordered
and fitted to the vehicle and other orders quickly
followed.

Lourens
identified a gap in the market for the repair of Unimog
vehicles as a large number of armoured Buffels were
sold to the private market by the South African Defence
Force. The armoured cab and load body were either
removed or cut to such an extent that it was rendered
useless.
Lourens’ initial aim was to specialise in this
exclusive market, and with more than twenty three
years experience building and maintenance of heavy
duty vehicles, the decision
was made to broaden the scope of the business to include
a wider variety of products. Custom-made vehicles
include fire-fighting engines, drop-sides and multi-purpose
vehicles on Unimog chassis.
Lourens
says, “During my working career I have worked
for various fire fighting vehicle manufacturing companies
and have extensive knowledge and experience in the
building of fire fighting vehicles.

In 2002 Molozi trust approached me for a budget fire
fighting vehicle on a Unimog chassis. After the first
vehicle for Molozi Trust, other fire fighting vehicles
were built for private game reserves, farmers, forestry
and municipalities.
